Research méthod:
Simplified search (Potter's name and stamps):
Enter
your text in accordance with the following rules:
- The
research engine does not take into account characters like blank or point .
Example: CALENDIO.F is
equivalent to CALENDIO
F
or CALENDIOF
- The
research engine always consider that the given text correspond to an
incomplete stamp or potter name. All datas starting or finishing
by your text will be proposed.
Example:
About a research on ME,
it will be returned a stamp like MEDILUS as
well as CLEMENS
or O FIC[...] ME[...]
ID[...]
- Small
letters or capital letters: Small letters will be
automaticaly transform in capital letters.
- In
case of doubt concerning a character,
one solution is to perform differents trials
including the most probable characters in the text. The second is to
replace the uncertain character by a star (*).
Advanced research (Only stamps):
- The search engine always consider the submitted stamp is complete
. if it is not the case you may replace the missing part by %
. Then all datas
starting or finishing or composed of your text will be proposed
Example:
If you enter %ME% the search engine will return MEDILUS as well as
CLEMENS
or O FIC[...] ME[...]
ID[...] but if you enter only ME the answer list will be empty
- Small
letters or capital letters: Small letters will be
automaticaly transform in capital letters.
- In
case of doubt concerning a character,
one solution is to perform differents trials
including the most probable characters in the text. The second is to
replace the uncertain character by a star (*).
- Option: Only retrograde
. Vous can limit the search to this kind of stamp by selecting this option
Example:
If you enter %INVS%,
le search engine will return more than 300 stamps but less than 20 if this option is selected
- Option: To take into account the conventionals signs. Conventionals signs are: {AB}=Lettres ligaturées,
 '. or :'=1 or 2 or 3 dots superposed,
 / =next line,
 & =drawing like palm.
It is very useful when the stamp partialy readable and present
one or several particularities taken into account by this conventionals signs
Example:
If you submit %I{MA},
the engine will return more than 250 stamps but less than 200 if this option is selected
The best in order to understand is to try for example by submitting: A.VI% or
%{FE}% or %MA& when this option unselected and then with this option
selected
Mores advices...
- It
is mutch more preferable to enter only a part of the name then to
refine the research depending of the results you get than to enter the
entire name. One potter may sign with differents spelling
and the difficulty to read a stamps is important so it would be a shame
to do without approaching results.
Examples:
Double
letters: Try with only one letter. Potter ROPPV for
example use to sign ROPPVSF
but also ROPVSFE.
Omit to enter the O,
OF,
OFIC
or FE
, For
M
witch are before or after the potter name and that signifie OFFICINNA
(Workshop), FECIT
(... did it) and MANU
(handmade from ...) because a large possibilities exist for the same
potter
with or without those prefix and suffix. Potter VITALIS
for example use to sign VITALISF
as well as OF.VITA
or OVITALIS
- Take
care about reading problems: a letter may hide an other one.
Some letters, depending of the styles,
looks like very mutch to others like C and G, L and I.
Others may be misleading like cursives, ot linked letters.
Examples
linked letters:
This:
is a lying S.
This:
is MA linked and
is ANT linked.
This:
should be read
as EB
(E is retrograde).
Examples
cursives letters:
or
=A,
=D,
or
=F,
=G,
or
=I,
=L,
or
=N,
=O,
=Q,
or
=R,
or
=S,
=T,
=V
- Try
to replace a letter by an other. For example the final I by a V
or E
by II.
Potter: PATERCLVS use to sign PATERCLVSF
as like as PATERCLI.
Potter: PATERATVS
suse to sign PATERATIO
but also PATIIRATI.
Have a good
research time !!!
